General.
The pineapple is a tropical plant with an edible fruit and it’s the most economically significant plant in the family Bromeliaceae. Pineapples may be cultivated from the offset produced at the top of the fruit, possibly flowering in five to ten months and fruiting in the following six months.
Problems Growing Pineapple.
Pineapple red mite.
Adults, nymph and eggs of this species are bright orange in colour when alive. When present on the plant, the mite is always found on the white basal portion of the leaves, where it feeds, particularly on the crown.
Mealy bugs
Mealybugs are oval, cottony, soft-bodied sucking insects that become lethal to pineapple plants when their population is increased and bugs suck the sap from leaves causing the plant to wilt.
Bacterial Heart Rot
Bacterial heart rot and fruit collapse of pineapple are diseases caused by a soft rot bacterium. Affected pineapple plants develop blister-like leaf lesions and soft rot in mature fruit. Fruit may not show symptoms until 2 to 3 weeks before ripening.J
