Chilli is an annual fruiting plant that sought after all over the world. Most chillis provide only one growing season before needing to be replaced by the next generation of plant. Farmers can choose from a wide variety of chillis to grow that provides a range of flavours and spice to suit their customer’s taste.

Problems faced by Chilli.

 

Phytium Root Rot

Phytium rot is a persistent disease that occurs in areas that are poorly drained or overly irrigated. The first symptoms are normally circular spots on the leaves of the plant.

Mosaic Virus

Chilli mosaic virus (CMV) is common disease of chilli. If a plant is infected the virus would spread to the whole planting area in a short period of time. The first symptoms are mottling, chlorotic rings and spots are produced on leaves and fruits.

White Fly

Whitefly feed on the plants sap which is why they tend to attack the fresh young growth on plants. Left unchecked they will multiply rapidly and cause lasting damage to the host plants, often stunting their development. Whiteflies pose a big risk as they also become vectors for disease and viruses.
